Turn off Tongariro Street (SH 1) at the roundabout into Spa Road. Turn left into County Avenue and drive into Spa Thermal Park. From the car park, follow the walkway signs for about 5 minutes across the park to the Waikato River. Near the start of the walkway, a bridge crosses a natural hot stream which is popular for bathing. The well-defined track then winds along the riverbank and offers spectacular views of the Waikato River. A viewing platform at the mid point offers the ideal spot for lunch or a break. The walk finishes at the impressive Huka Falls where the river is confined to a deep rock channel. The river emerges with a rush at the northern end to form Huka Falls. Return via the same track or arrange transport from the Huka Falls car park. |
