Blue and Green Lakes

Stretch your legs and enjoy some picturesque scenery around Lake Tikitapu. The Blue Lake as it is known, is famous for its colour which is caused by silica particles in the water. The stunning native NZ bush surrounding the lake hides a meandering walkway that is popular to all walkers. Circumnavigating Lake Tikitapu will take you about 1 hour and there are many lovely spots for a picnic. If you wish to venture further on, the Green Lake has several paths for the more adventurous. The Blue Lake and Green Lake tracks are also accessible from the 'Redwoods' as part of a larger track through the Whakarewarewa Forest. To walk these tracks from within the Whakarewarewa forest be sure to obtain a map from The Redwoods Visitor Centre or Information Centre first.
