For those who love birdlife, few walks will out-do the Lake Okareka Walkway. Recently developed as a wetland preservation project this easy (and flat) track and boardwalk offers close access to many of our birdlife species. The walkway tracks around the south east side of the lake and offers lovely views and rest spots with birdlife descriptions. This walk will take you approximately 1 hour to return to your vehicle and is a great walk for the whole family. The Lake Okareka Walkway can be accessed from Lake Tarawera, 15 minutes walk from Pukeko Landing. This track crosses over farmland onto the eastern end of the lake. |
