If you feel you can tear yourself away from the stunning views across the Otumutu Lagoon from your deck chair there are many lakeside tracks around the residential parts of Lake Tarawera that showcase the beauty of our area.Cliff Road Reserve - Mountain ViewsFor a short stroll to view the magnificent Mt Tarawera take a 10 minute stroll to the Cliff Road Reserve. Exit Ronald road and turn left back onto Spencer Road as if you were returning to Rotorua. The Cliff Road Reserve is on your left and winds briefly down to the lake front. Enjoy the simply stunning views of the mountain, particularly just before dusk on a nice day and see the mountain 'turn to fire'.Journeys End - Spencer RoadIf you just fancy a roadside stroll from Pukeko Landing head North for 3kms to the end of Spencer Road. Enjoy the peace, tranquillity and native birdlife. Stoney Point - Kariri Point trackOne popular track begins at the Stoney Point Reserve and winds over Kariri Point and southwest along the waters edge. There are many delightful swimming spots amongst the beautiful bush. This track is very easy and reveals the 'bach' lifestyle of many of the residents. Allow 2 hours walk from Pukeko Landing.Trout HatcheryDrive for 7 minutes to the Tarawera Landing. A short 5 minute stroll from the Landing Cafe leads you to the Tarawera Trout Hatchery. At certain times of the year you'll be able to see the many trout prior to their release into the wild. Journey in the other direction from the Cafe to the lovely 'Orchard' for a short walk. The waterfront at The Orchard provides lovely views across to Mt Tarawera. |
