Waimangu Volcanic Valley

Waimangu Volcanic Valley was born in the violence of a volcanic eruption. This is a truly unique opportunity to experience the only hydrothermal system in the world where the exact day of commencement of surface activity is known, namely 10th June 1886. View Echo Crater - Frying Pan lake, the largest hot water spring in the world and take in the Inferno Crater, the world's largest geyser-like feature. Spend 3 hours taking the Waimangu/Rotomahana Explorer Tour and walk in-depth through the valley following the crater walkways and join a boat cruise on Lake Rotomahana and shuttle bus back to the entrance. Allow 2 hours to complete the Waimangu Wanderer tour and wander along the volcanic walkways. Learn the explosive history of Waimangu and take in the phenomenal vantage points giving dramatic panoramas. Or give yourself 1.5 hours for a safe boat cruise. This non walking option allows you to learn the history of the Tarawera eruption. View the volcanic activity, which can only be seen from the boat.
